Old Town of AlUla
Augmented book

Within the Place of Remembrance, we designed an immersive narrative device shaped as an open book. The story is projected directly onto a sculptural piece of furniture, transforming the object into a living, interactive surface. Visitors explore the narrative through gesture: by gently stroking the scenery as if turning pages, they gradually reveal scenes and illustrations created by Saudi artist Ethar Balkhair.

The first spread introduces the tale in both languages: on the right, the English title “The Chest of Loyalty – A Tale from the Town of Alula” ; on the left, its Arabic counterpart. Depending on which page the visitor chooses to turn, the story unfolds in the corresponding language, accompanied by the narrator’s voice.

Each spread also triggers a wall projection that extends the reading experience and expands the visual universe into the surrounding space. The book becomes an interface, the voice carries the narration, and interaction creates a seamless continuity between gesture, image, and story. An intuitive and poetic experience where technology recedes behind discovery.
